After graduating successfully with a CIM Diploma in Marketing Professional, Oxcom student Jack Hardy continued his professional development to become a Chartered Marketer. Jack now shares his experiences of studying as well as the benefits of gaining Chartered status.
You might be reading this to see if becoming a Chartered is worth your time. Without a doubt, it absolutely is. I’m fortunate enough to be one of the first Associate Members of the CIM to become a Chartered Marketer and I have already started to see the benefits.
To achieve my goal of gaining Chartered status, I needed to find a study centre that would support my learning and study needs. I decided to study with Oxford College of Marketing because of their reputation, and they didn’t let me down. I found their tutors to be incredibly helpful both inside and outside the classroom. They gave me feedback and advice on my career that I wasn’t able to get anywhere else.
The reason I undertook a CIM qualification was that I wanted to ensure that it would open doors for me in the future to further my career. Now that I’m Chartered, my recognition has skyrocketed. It’s easy to see why when I compare the skills I have now to the ones I had before I started the course. This is thanks to the practical syllabus created by the CIM. It included the core learning every marketer needs to succeed, which is then backed by their CPD (continuous professional development) platform and used to achieve the Chartered status.
In the current business environment, it’s important for a marketer to have a diverse set of skills to succeed and in my experience, it’s what recruiters are now actively looking for. By being a member of the CIM, I’ve been able to use the CPD platform to ensure I am continuously developing my skills. In addition, by being a Chartered Marketer, it enables me to display the accreditation of an up-to-date, experienced and qualified marketing professional.
Advice On Becoming a Chartered Marketer
If you’ve read this and want to gain your Chartered Marketer status, I would advise you to be prepared for a very steep learning curve. When beginning your CIM qualification journey, there is a lot to learn and you do need to find a way of studying that works for you. I found doing a little bit every day worked best for me because I was able to focus on key snippets of information and really embed them into my memory. I also took advantage of any spare time I had by doing little things like taking a book with me when I was waiting for appointments.
I think it’s also important to remember your tutors are there to help you, so never feel like you can’t reach out to them. You will be surprised at the lengths they are willing to go to help you. Finally, remember that you’re doing this to create a better future for yourself and trust me, it will all pay off.
