Harriet Green graduated with us in November 2022 with a CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing. We are delighted that Harriet has been awarded the prestigious Top Student Prize by CIM at November’s graduation ceremony.
We caught up with Harriet to hear about her experience studying the CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing and what advice she would give to others considering the qualification.
Why did you decide to undertake a CIM Diploma qualification?
I studied Marketing as part of my degree back in 2011-2014, so I’ve always been interested. My job roles since graduating have had some elements of marketing, but it hasn’t been the sole focus. In 2020, I moved into a full-time marketing role and my manager asked if I would be interested in gaining a CIM qualification at the same time. I thought this would be a great way of building on what I had previously learned and would enable me to get up to date on modern marketing techniques.
How did you find studying for the qualification?
I really enjoyed being a student and being back in education again. I love to learn new things so it was great to be studying topics that would help me in my role every day and my career going forward. It’s true that working a 9-5 week and then fitting in an extra 10-12 hours of studying around hobbies and social life was a balancing act. When assignment deadlines were approaching, there were some long days and late nights, but all that hard work was worth it, and it was reflected in the end result.
I’d also like to thank all the tutors that I had during my course, they were incredibly knowledgeable and I felt really supported to achieve the best grade I could. I was lucky enough to have three tutors that enthusiastically wanted us to succeed, which really helped my motivation throughout the course.
How do you feel about winning the top student award for the Level 6 Diploma in Digital Marketing?
Shocked! When I received the email telling me the news I was lost for words. I knew that I had worked hard and I was really pleased with the grades I achieved, but I never thought that I could have won this award. It was such a lovely surprise and something that I am really proud of.
How has your qualification benefited you?
I would say the biggest benefit is that it has given me so much more confidence in my abilities and knowledge as a marketer. It’s great to be able to back up my ideas and strategies with the theories and models I learned about in my studies. It’s also introduced me to different techniques and technologies that I have been able to bring into my job to keep our marketing efforts current.
What advice would you give to anyone considering studying for a CIM qualification?
I would say, go for it! If you are keen to learn more about marketing and you have some spare time to dedicate to learning, then this is a great, scheduled and supportive way to build upon your skills. I surprised myself with how much I knew by the end of the course, especially after winning this award – you might surprise yourself too!
Jane Young, Oxford College of Marketing’s Managing Director, sent her congratulations to Harriet:
