Tips from CIM Senior Examiners for success with the CIM Diploma in Marketing – Part Four

January 4th, 2011 No comments

Continuing our feedback from the recent CIM tutor day, this post outlines the feedback received from the Senior Examiner (SE) surrounding Project Management in Marketing with some hints for success with this assessment.

The SE outlined the following about the PMiM assessment:

  •  All four aspects of the syllabus will be assessed in the assignment.
  • Students and tutors need to ensure the content and the brief are properly ‘aligned’.
  • The starting point for any paper is for the student to conduct the audit – it’s important to get this right or the student will struggle to meet the needs of the assessment.
  • The audit should then lead them on to their choice of project.

ACHIEVING CHARTERED MARKETER STATUS

ACHIEVING CHARTERED MARKETER STATUS

AS A STUDYING MEMBER

Have spoken to CIM today.  To clarify – all studying members, regardless of membership level, can sign up to the Chartered Marketer Programme and accrue CPD hours whilst studying with Oxford College of Marketing.

A couple of useful definitions:

  • Chartered Marketer Status – awarded to full members (MCIM) of the CIM who have accrued and evidenced 35 CPD hours over two consecutive years

  • Studying member – any student registered with CIM (i.e. having a candidate number) – regardless of age, title or experience.

  • Full member – MCIM – awarded ‘automatically’ on application after successful completion of the Post-Graduate Diploma stage 1

Implications for Oxford College of Marketing:

  • All current (and potential) Post-Graduate Diploma Stage 1 students should be advised to register immediately with CIM and on the CPD programme

  • Assuming they begin studying with us in September 2009, they will accrue 35 CPD hours by June 2010 (year 1), then complete A&D (E) course from September- December 2010, which will contribute towards 35 CPD hours in the second year.  Completion of studies – December 2010 – results February 2011.  Apply for up-grade to full membership before June 2011 – CPD hours will count and Chartered Status will be awarded from 1st July 2011.

  • Professional Diploma students who are completing under the old syllabus and intending to continue onto the PG Diploma should be advised to register for the CPD programme.

It is less of an issue for new Professional Diploma students as even if they are intending to go straight onto the PG Dip next year, they will have plenty of opportunity to accrue enough hours by the time they have completed their PG Dip and attained full member status (MCIM)

Graduate Foundation Course

July 14th, 2009 No comments

Over the last nine months we have written up the new CIM syllabus. This included doing a new module the Graduate Foundation Course – because CIM has no qualification that sits at level 5. This means that graduates without marketing in their degree should according to CIM enter at certificate level.

I have no doubt that our example will be copied by other colleges, in fact one has already produce a one day course, that claims to do just this. Alas it will not be the same, the Oxford College of Marketing course is fully documented on our e-learning system and will be hard to copy as it took so long to produce. As usual we are being our normally obsessive selves.
