Oxford College of Marketing opens in Johannesburg – Walter Donaldson Centre Manager says “Welcome”

September 27th, 2011 No comments

Get qualified with the Chartered Institute of Marketing

The Oxford College of Marketing (OXCOM) will now be the premier training vehicle for aspiring students in Southern Africa seeking a top international marketing qualifications. The College offers training on the global and ‘sought-after’ qualifications provided by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). OXCOM opened its doors in Oxford in 1997 and now encompasses fourteen centres across the UK and ten other centres internationally.

Walter Donaldson will provide Local Support

Walter Donaldson MBA, MCIM Chartered Marketer, CM(SA) is the newly appointed Centre Manager covering South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana. Courses will initially be offered as distance leaning and then as part time evening or intensive weekend courses.

As Walter Donaldson ( Centre Manager) says, “We are a private college, owned and managed by marketers for marketers. Our management team are all senior marketing professionals with considerable marketing department experience. We are passionate about delivering great marketing and the provision of outstanding marketing training. These values drive our high standards in customer services, staffing, course materials and flexible programmes”.

CIM courses in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana

In order to assist students with their CIM courses in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana Walter Donaldson will be managing students from Johannesburg. The objective is to be able to provide better locally based support for Oxford College of Marketing overseas students through working with a local, experienced professional marketer.

Walter says, “In this way, students don’t get the perception that they are ‘on their own’ as seems to be the case with many distance learning programmes”.

Walter will be assisting and advising all our learners in Southern Africa, providing guidance on the right qualifications and making sure that they are on the right level courses. He will also assist learners on getting started with their studies. Communication with Walter will be made through local telephonic, Skype and face to face contact.

It is envisaged that additional intensive weekend classes and face to face tuition will be arranged throughout the year to encourage and refresh learners during the course and closer to examinations.

What makes CIM  professional qualifications different?

The difference between the CIM qualifications and those provided by other marketing institutes is that The Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications focus on the practical application of marketing skills. This means that students do more applied assignments to real work problems than exams. Employers benefit directly from this method of assessment because the assignments are based on the business and benefit directly – as do the students who are able to move from the theory based exams that other marketing courses may still be doing.

Another difference is that students are accepted onto the courses from many different types of background, both academic and with work experience. There are entries at four levels: Introductory, Certificate, Diploma and Post Graduate and it is possible to be accepted at any level, depending on qualifications and experience – this can save time and money.

Develop your Digital Self!

Oxford College of Marketing also believe that no marketing strategy is now complete without a digital component. So now anyone studying a Chartered Institute of Marketing and CAM course with the Oxford College of Marketing will be given OPEN  access to the six other digital modules This means that you can learn now and take and pay for the assessments with us at a later date.

  • Diploma in Digital Marketing
  • Diploma in Managing Digital Media
  • Diploma in Mobile Marketing
  • Diploma in Digital Metrics and Analytics
  • Diploma in Digital Media and Branding
  • Diploma in Digital Campaign Planning

This is a Level 4 Qualification which means that if you have a Matric you can do these Diplomas and then do the Level 6 Professional Diploma in Marketing, and then the Level 7 Professional Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and then go on and do a Masters. If you already have a Degree, or an MBA, you may still like to develop your Digital skills.

 Why Join the CIM?

“The CIM is the world’s largest organisation for professional marketers with more than 45,000 members world wide. There are approximately 5,600 Chartered Marketers in over 100 countries throughout the world and a further 15,000 members currently working towards Chartered Marketer status.”

As Walter says, “With the need for internationally recognised marketing courses and the increasing mobility of the work force,  we realised there was an opportunity to offer world class professional marketing qualifications through our distance learning training programmes.”

Walter says, “This is a great opportunity for marketing learners to get an international qualification with a global institute such as the CIM without having to register for local marketing programmes which tend to be a stepping stone towards CIM recognition anyway. Why spend all that money on local courses when you can go the direct route for approximately the same price, or in some cases a lot less?” He added. “ and what is more move onto to a Masters in Marketing . This is an ideal way to work and earn.”
